Why Go to a Pediatric Dentist? Almost everyone takes their children to a Pediatrician for their routine medical care and medical emergencies. You wouldn't think of bringing your child or teenager to your Obstetrician/Gynecologist or your Internal Medicine physician. Wouldn't be great if there was a dentist and dental office that was just for children? Well there is and that is a Pediatric Dentist. The Pediatric Dentist is the specialist dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The Pediatric Dentist has completed an additional two years of training beyond completion of Dental School. This allows him/her to provide the most up to date and thorough treatment for your child’s dental needs. He/She is specially trained in behavior management, growth and development, prevention and restorative needs for infants, children, pre-teens, teens, and special needs children and adults. The Pediatric dental office is designed specifically, with children in mind. It is a comfortable, safe, and child-friendly environment. Our entire staff has been trained to meet the needs of children. Very often your child can immediately tell this office is different. One that is special just for him/her. Who Should See a Pediatric Dentist? All children should start seeing a pediatric dentist between 1 -3 years of age and continue through early adulthood (age 18- 21). An infant consultation is usually performed at 12 months of age. At this appointment, Dr. Ginsberg will discuss early oral health and prevention of dental decay. The doctor will also discuss treatment of early decay if present. All children can benefit from seeing a pediatric dentist. Dr. Ginsberg is specially trained in all areas of early childhood development and pediatric medical issues. The apprehensive child and the adolescent benefit from the unique atmosphere of the pediatric dental office. Many children and adolescents have a fear of going to a dentist and need the special care of a pediatric dentist and staff. The pediatric dental office is unique in its ability to provide services for children with special needs and those who are medically compromised. With understanding, patience, compassion and clinical expertise, Dr. Ginsberg and his staff work with the needs of your child and the concerns of the parents. It is never too late to start seeing a Pediatric Dentist. Children with Special Needs As a Pediatric Dentist, part of our training and specialty is taking care of children, teens, and young adults with special needs. Whether it's a psychological or physical developmental disability or a child with cancer, our office has extensive experience with a large spectrum of conditions. They include (but not restricted to): Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Down’s Syndrome, Epidermolysis Bullosa, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and cancer patient’s on chemotherapy or in remission. We are very used to providing an understanding and receptive environment for any possible occurrence. We communicate not only with the child and their family, but also other medical experts important to your child’s medical condition. In our office, children are not placed under general anesthesia (see our Question and Answer Section) which can pose a complication for many of these children. We know that all children are entitled to and require not only compassion but quality dental care. Your child will receive the best care and be treated with respect. |
